Agile, compact, dynamic: These were the characteristics of the original overall automatica sprint hybrid concept, which will be implemented online-only in June 2021 due to the course of the pandemic. What was the initial intention behind it? How did it set new trends with its flexibility and contemporary development? And what would the interplay of its two components 'in-person trade fair' and 'digital platform' have looked like?
Since its inception, automatica has been the most important sounding board, innovation driver and source of knowledge for automation and robotics. This made it all the more important to offer an attractive marketplace that reflects this claim even in times of the pandemic – in the form of a compact and workable solution for all pandemic contingencies. A new event concept was developed together with all stakeholders: automatica sprint.
The requirements and main features of the new format included flexibility, modularity and candidness. Conceived as a hybrid in-person and digital event, automatica sprint facilitated advance planning and guaranteed its own feasibility right from the start. Because the two components could be implemented alongside each other or separately. The goals? To deepen the dialogue and to provide quick networking opportunities for all participants to exchange knowledge, solutions and experience. The focus: robotics, assembly and handling technology, machine vision and digital solutions for the smart factory.
The open hall structure and uncomplicated stand solutions of the automatica sprint in-person trade fair would have offered maximum accessibility; and standardized participation modules would have offered maximum flexibility – including attractive fixed prices and generous cancellation options.
A responsible and well-thought-out hygiene protocol would have ensured safety on site – thus providing maximum support to exhibitors. Here, the organizer was responsible for implementing measures such as maintaining the minimum distance and ensuring compliance with mask-wearing. The same goes for catering services , which would have been centrally controlled in order to ensure compliance with all safety and hygiene requirements.
Catering for employees and customers would thus also have been provided without any effort on the part of the exhibitors – on the one hand through an external canteen instead of individual catering at the exhibition stands; on the other hand through greatly simplified visitor invitation management using QR codes and collective invoicing after the trade fair.
1. A thoroughbred daughter of automatica.

2. Everything new, same quality.
The same high quality standards of automatica, everything else has been redesigned: From the hall layout, the type and size of stands, the supporting program and opportunities for dialog to communication and processes.
3. Quick access to the state of affairs.
automatica sprint 2021 was all about being dynamic and providing quick access to the most significant and relevant content. The focus was on interaction between exhibitors and visitors as well as innovation and knowledge transfer.
4. Sales platform for the industry.
We wanted to provide the community with an attractive sales platform as quickly as possible in these times of the coronavirus. automatica sprint 2021 has been developed precisely for this purpose and is the perfect event to fill the gap until automatica 2022.
5. Optimal response to the market situation.
With its focus on customer dialog and experiencing machines up close, automatica sprint was the perfect response to the current situation and one of the first opportunities for the community to get together again in person.
6. Robotics and digitalization are booming.
The rapid increase in digitalization, which has been further accelerated by the pandemic, is putting many companies on the spot. Personal exchange and orientation was the need of the hour to decide on future investments.
7. Introducing munich_i.
This unique high-tech summit for the first time brought together leading international figures from the field of AI and robotics within the framework of automatica.
8. Focus on flexibility and simplicity.
Three stand sizes, one stand builder, centralized catering, efficient processes: These are just some of the things that made the new concept as flexible, modular, innovative and attractive as it was– for both exhibitors and visitors.
9. A new hybrid in-person and digital exhibition.
The event was designed to be both digital and analog right from the start. And the digital component is not a stopgap, but an integral part of the concept.
10. Advance planning-enabled.
The event is already guaranteed to take place. Depending on how the pandemic developed, the in-person and digital components could be flexibly adjusted.
11. A Covid 19-compliant solution.
With a well-thought-out hygiene protocol, all necessary measures were taken to ensure the health of all participants.
12. The common sounding board.
